It's definitely not coordinated. It's an emergent phenomenon that was created by the engagement-maximizing feed and recommendation algorithms we're plugged into

Why should it be an either-or proposition? There's lots of evidence that young boys are falling behind to girls in early to college education. Maybe both genders need encouraging words? And if we're collectively going to dish out

Yep, the "women are wonderful" trope is extremely widespread in the media. I've seen dozens of articles with a headline like "women are better than men at investing" or "women make for better leaders". You

A very good step if passed. Sadly these new projects will still have to go through a lengthy, byzantine approvals process

The real problem is how much of a win that tactic was for Gizmodo and others who published the incomplete document in bad faith. Clickbait sensationalism in media, particularly around race and gender issues, created this environment.

You should write a longer post about this, perhaps on Medium, and share it. I think it's a topic worthy of more discussion

Yes, but men are statistically more likely than women to be the victim of violence. Male drivers are taking on just as much, if not more of a safety risk driving for Uber, why should special accommodation be made for women?

One thing I realized when doing my own startup is how much of the startup and business advice you see on Twitter is purely personal marketing Gary V is a good example. Hustling is his brand. When he tweets inspirational quotes or instagrams

"Every now and then, I see a designer who’s over the moon to sign with a company, only to find after 6 months that the job isn’t what they expected." Ironically, looking at the Twitter bio of the author, it looks like she has move

Why would it drop below 1.6B? Coinbase makes money in both bull and bear markets via fees. If they booked 1B+ in fees last year their cash on hand alone should justify their current valuation, if not conservatively justify a higher one

Yes, but Amazon and the companies that spring up around HQ2 will enable many landless people to become landed. And if that happens to an extreme degree where it becomes unsustainable, maybe an HQ3 would be in order?

Unaffordable is relative. If HQ2 brings thousands of high-paying jobs with it, plus creates an ecosystem where tens of thousands of other good paying jobs are created, housing can become more affordable to more people while rising in price.

Could the answer to all those questions be "because the developer made the wrong job choice?" There are plenty of good developer jobs in silicon valley and the broader tech market. Why work somewhere that treats you poorly?

This interview really demonstrates the style of argumentation you see around these topics, just dialed up to 11. Practitioners of this form of argument intentionally mis-represent the other side to form a strawman argument. This works excep

I have no data here, just posing a question. I think it would be an interesting hypothesis on which to run a survey. Personally, I've found that self-limiting beliefs have held me back in a number of areas — especially around confidenc

Could constantly identifying oneself as being 'marginalized' contribute to the feeling of being an outsider? As another commenter pointed out, the Kapor Center data is not nearly as damning as this piece suggests. Many of the repo
