No, you need a path to ground for any current to flow. You need a difference in electrical potential more specifically. When insulated, there is no difference. Your potential is “floating”.

Unless you’re playing REALLY loud, I don’t think you are anywhere near 250 or 500W of consumption. I would guess it is the maximum rated power? Even with quite old and inefficient amp + speaker combo, 30W of sound is usually a lot(!). Tube

I agree.. Waymo sells +150k rides every week according to Alphabet’s Q3 2024 earnings announcement. Yes they need human assistance once in a while. I know of plenty other automation that needs to be tickled or rebooted periodically to work,

Ah, I misunderstood what you meant by range :) For such prefix queries, I think a radix-tree/Trie or ordered collections are more useful (than the index-based collection I initially mentioned). Thanks for following up :)

Definitely! If the integers are (truncated) hashes, ranges are completely meaningless. But what would a range over strings even represent? Perhaps if you e.g. use string indices into an array of sorted strings (by length, by prefix or whate

Hash the string to convert to integer -> double hash or truncate to lowest 32 bits and this technique works for strings as well. You can replace string with any data structure you can hash or index really.

Have you read the paper discussed in the article? https://static1.squarespace.com/static/6593e7097565990e65c88... From the abstract: > We study whether models have the capability to scheme in pursuit of a goal that

Most people do not buy from specific sources of production. They buy “from the grid”, the constituents of which are a dynamic mix of production sources (solar, wind, hydro, nuclear and fossile where I live). Wind is strong at night when sol

As long as you can buy energy, you should choose the cheapest source (Levelized Cost of Energy). Which is renewables in most places. I don’t think blackouts are very common for grid connected data centers :)?

Our juniors write horribly complex code that senior devs have to ask to simplify. This happens all the time. And the juniors simplify and thank us for teaching and mentoring. It’s a big reason we do reviews. So we can control how dirty the

Lisp-like languages with their S-expression syntax (or lave of same) makes this very easy to do at least. Abstract interpretation is super easy to implement over Lisp-like languages IMO.

You can define macros over the assembly to gain a high level language sort of similar to an untyped dialect of C. For me it would be sort of like writing programs in C versus higher level languages: much more tedious, will take longer and r

Again this pattern that “you don’t understand, so others should change something”. Again: not judging, just observing. Consider that you are perhaps the minority ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Truer words were never spoken! I see my family too rarely because of the everyday hustle. I love the holidays for the slow pace, the long lunches and dinners. Talking about nothing and everything.

You’ve made a lot of critical comments here. You are obviously the one who is not understanding or is perhaps misunderstanding something. Observability is a pretty standard term in software development. Events have nothing per se to do with
