Traditionally, poor people who couldn't afford meat have been much worse off health-wise. And the biggest health decline in human history occurred when we switched from hunter-gathering lifestyles to farming (see Jared Diamond). Further, th

You'll be eating 2 grams of carbohydrate for every gram of protein that you get that way. Sure, getting your carbs from beans is not nearly as bad for you as getting them from sugar, but there are much higher quality, and more expensive, pr

The above poster has a valid point. He thinks that rather than making millions of single-purpose plastic bags and then going through an expensive process to clean up after them, we should instead not produce the plastic bags in the first pl

The problem with overpopulation is that we generally need more kids from the sort of people that worry about overpopulation, and fewer kids from the sort of people who don't. Instead, we get the opposite. Graduate education is the world's m

I wouldn't worry. Whites are going down the crapper pretty fast too. Take a look at this chart: http://blog.american.com/?p=714 Marriage is for wealth-preservers and wealth-creators. That's not the direction that society is trending.

Do you really consider it a train wreck? There seem to be some useful new features. The tragedy, in my opinion, is that we don't have more to show from a decade's work by so many brilliant people. C++ is straitjacketed by ISO standardizatio

I really like C++. I use python, I use ruby, but I don't enjoy either of them as much as C++. They feel "dumbed-down." And the speed has been nice many times. I feel that one of the things really holding C++ back is its development model. T
