No offense, but the perception of the US outside of the "diversity bastions" like SF, NYC, LA, etc. has jumped the shark. People now assume that racism and hatred is rampant outside these areas, and it isn't remotely the case

I agree, and I think the discussion of suburban vs urban doesn't focus on it enough. As a single (or at least, childless) person, the city absolutely is much more appealing to me. The moment I had children the city became much less des

This is absolutely not the case in the metro areas I've lived in. Suburbs are generally much more affordable than the neighboring urban centers.

Too cold? I visited in January and couldn't believe how nice it was. It may be my Midwest frame of reference, but everyone else was walking around in short sleeves and perfectly comfortable so I doubt it.

Its not unambiguously good news. There are several countries such as Japan and Sweden that are looking down the barrel of inverted population pyramids in their immediate future and the consequences are expected to be dire. Yes, overpopulati

WL was provided with a large cache of Russian leaks in 2016, about half of which had been previously published, the other half of which had been previously unavailable. They declined to publish any of it.

Due to the way reddit is subdivided, it mostly keeps that toxicity quarantined to the groups that revel in it. For people who want to avoid it, it isn't particularly difficult to.

They actually were called out for giving Trump such a high chance of victory by many. In particular, the Huffington Post accused Nate Silver and 538 of intentionally biasing their results to make it seem like Trump had a better shot. Someho

I'm unsure what you are talking about, but as the other person stated, 538 gave Trump a 30% chance to win. If your colleagues interpreted that as a surefire thing then that reflects on you all poorly, not 538.

They can be wrong. The problem is that you are looking at a single data point. Judging their performance requires viewing all of their predictions, across all elections, and seeing how often their predicted probabilities match up with outco

Why should pharma companies not be allowed to market their products?

There's plenty of industries that do. Tech makes much more. In fact, pharma on average spends a greater proportion of revenue on R&D than just about any other industry.
