Is there a specific reason that WeWork comes up so much on HN? I've never heard of it otherwise, but I see at least one story on it hit the front page a week.

They’ve had this for months; it’s called “Add to Bookmarks” in the popup options on a given Tweet.

Twitter is not an “echo chamber.” A site that big simply has way too many conflicting opinions for that to be true.

The same reason there aren’t browser competitors - it would take forever to write and test one, and even then, on a new OS, you’d have to write tremendous amounts of user software to even be usable, let alone competitive.

It's not about censorship, so much about it just being that there's nothing appealing about a government social media site. At all. The majority of conversations that happen on sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat would just

It's been a while since I've found myself disagreeing with something so strongly. I think that the absolute last thing we need is government-funded social media. If YouTube "spreads propaganda," what do you expect from a

I would argue that a so-called "new era" has already begun, regardless of whether Stallman is physically the chair of any organization. So much time has passed since the formation of the FSF, and (though HN likes to pretend otherw

Major kudos to the Feathers team on the release. FeathersJS was my first introduction to open source, and sets a very high standard in terms of documentation quality. Congrats, and looking forward to more to come!

For those who downvoted this, I’m pretty sure GP is referring to the “nice” command line tool, used to give a task a certain priority: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nice_(Unix)

I have no idea how, but Docker for Mac was taking up a whopping 65GB of space in one of the cache folders in ~/Library, although I had uninstalled it months ago. I wish I had taken a screenshot, but I was honestly dumbfounded. I had us

To be fair, I think you can get the “competition” phenomenon anywhere. I always read people’s blogs about programming and internships and feel like no matter how much I do, I’ll always be behind. So it’s possible that it’s not a social medi

Genuine question here: if you’re already going to be shipping native code, why would you need WebAssembly in the mix, especially if you’re not targeting a browser?

The fullPage.js model IMO is the best way to fund an open source project, if you’re not getting paid by an employer specifically to maintain that project. Make a free option available for copyleft-compatible cases, and then charge in cases

I said something similar on a previous post, but more and more, it’s becoming more clear to that “open source” and “profit” are not very compatible. The truth is simple: if you use a permissive license like MIT, you will probably never see

In my own view, as an open source maintainer, aiming to gain revenue from open-source is kind of a fool’s errand, as it’s not really compatible with FOSS. It’s just not. At the end of the day, the best way for a single developer to extract
