Interesting extension of this exercise would be to replace your custom AST with the AST exposed by Python, then use the compile() builtin to compile said AST into a PyCodeObject ready for direct execution by the Python VM. :) Something alon

strndup is part of the "standard", but not present on some platforms unfortunately. :( I can't think of a modern C runtime that doesn't offer strdup, though. The realloc check is good advice -- take heed, OP. :)

I can't comment on XUbuntu, but I went from LXDE to Debian+Xfce and finally settled on Debian+OpenBox. If you're really only interested in Xfce vs. LXDE, I'd go with Xfce -- but only because it should be less of a memory hog & I doubt y
