This shows the power of having a fixed computing budget. Many modern software should really be done this way to limit the amount of energy used. Specially on laptops, but also in the cloud. Yet, it is mostly never worth it to optimize compa

It is. Until it isn't anymore. Same as we used to do asm, but then the generated code is becoming good enough, or even better than hand written asm. I predict the async trend will fade, as hardware and software will improve. And synchr

Indeed. Do DnD style tabletops with your dev team mates. Seriously. It definitely enables you to know how they operate. And in general, it also enables you to understand the meaning of some writing for and from others. Boosting its creativi

I used to buy all those gaming and elctronics magazines as a kid. But as a group of a dozen, we paid each a part of it, and it was timeshared. Now try that with e-zines that are full of DRM

If you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Then, it mostly works, so management makes "economy of scales" and removes all screw drivers, since they need more skills anyway. Now, you are only using nails. Until someon

TIL that it was named phantom types. I use them in C via struct/union. It is a little more verbose to use, but offers type safety when needed without any runtime penalty. That, and a good naming scheme : always encode the unit in the v

So do I. I simply boycott those that need an online server for multiplayer, unless an opensource version exists. LAN or nobuy. Sadely, it seems that simple LAN multiplayer is not fashionable anymore... Yet, I recently restarted some LAN par

Rst is technically vastly superior to MD. Yet I predict that MD will prevail. VHS style. I hugely prefer to write in RST, but as soon as I'm not alone we always switch to MD, given enough coworkers.
