Thanks for that encouragement /s I think it's great to encourage students like Samarth and I by sharing and talking about what we're building. You can offer specific and helpful feedback which I would really appreciate. But I

I think a less cynical way to phrase your (correct) idea is that people love the promise of profit as an incentive to create innovation. It's not a fully self consistent system. But the end goal isn't profit imo, it's innovat

Android's governance is entirely under Google/Alphabet for all practical purposes today, even as the OS is open source. Reasons for this are numeorus (licensing, Play Services, etc.) Chromium is in a similar boat. Parent is propos

I believe the modus operandi for most personal cloud storage providers here is to make the entire dataset read- and delete-only until the user gets enough storage space (by upgrading or deleting files) to be able to write/upload again.

Like the article briefly mentions at the end, I'm really a fan of Webpack's approach to configuration -- exporting the configuration from an executable script. It gets around most of the problems outlined here (numbers, comments,

I'm surprised this is the first time I've seen the "touchbar as a way to get the A-series chips into macbooks" take. It's the most sensible explanation.

The battery increase for the high end i7/i9 models is to offset the increased power draw -- it supposedly won't give you much in terms of battery life in actual usage.

Count me in, for one. My main machine is still the 2013 MBP (2015 MBP at work). But every laptop / portable / desktop I've bought since then has been a Windows machine, because they offer either 1) similar value at a cheaper

Having built some SPA's, I'd argue that at least those two things that you mentioned are the fault of whoever built bad SPA's, rather than issues with SPA's as a whole. It's possible to build an SPA that works well

Another solution for data integrity I've been tempted to try instead of switching filesystems is to go RAID 1 / 10 on a couple SSD's. A bit finicky to set up (and not viable on Macbooks, obviously) but it's practically z

I think the correct representation of this is Rust to LLVM IR (which is there), then LLVM to WebAssembly (which should be there but isn't). Actually, WebAssembly as a compile target is just generally not there on the graph, which is we

I’ve been running through names of Greek and Roma deities for my machines, which work super well. They can even be themed (all mobile / wireless clients are named after dieties of death).

(gross oversimplification of music theory follows:) You've probably heard of complementary colors and the color wheel in the context of art. The idea there is (afaik) that some colors are thought to go "better" together and t

One thing I'd add: be eager to find opportunities that aren't just money-makers but that help you move up, meet people who are better than you at what you do, and can help you grow.

I would say an important point of note is that a lot of people who would consider themselves power users still use Intel chips from the early 2010's. Coming from someone who's using a Sandy Bridge i7.
