Why not? I feel like sentience requires the ability to reason.

His argument was that it might not be completely sentient, but could have some properties of sentience that we should be testing for. I'd say the ability to reason well given a unique irl situation is one of them. I understand that it&

Might just be me, but I think the big difference here is the level of adoption. Everybody with an internet connection can use an LLM. It hits closer to home that way, whereas driving is very dangerous and most people haven't used a sel

I hear this kind of stuff all the time working in IT. A surprising amount of people think they gotta "learn docker" and "learn Powershell" and "learn AWS" and it just doesn't make any sense to me. Just lea

It's pretty funny seeing that ex-google "sentient" dude get slightly vindicated over time.

Nice self report. Comments like this just scream "I don't know how to use an LLM appropriately". There is a time and place for a tool. It's like watching someone make bad google queries then complain that they get shit r

Ironically the best way to learn these terms is to ask ChatGPT.

When I said "Medium" I meant the medium itself. A handwritten book and a typed book are both still a book. The printing press made books skyrocket in popularity because they became easier to produce.

I have seen this take on a few HN threads and I don't know where it comes from. People didn't stop reading books just because audiobooks got popular. Why would people suddenly just turn to AI for all their entertainment? Part of t

Stable diffusion finetunes and model merges. You can find most of the newer ones at CivitAI. https://civitai.com/ SD still has the hand problem, but a lot of the newer checkpoints are getting pretty good at hands. As far as

Using Dall-e 2 for all your example images is a great self report that you don't keep up much with AI.

So...they're releasing 2 separate AI? I don't understand how a text LLM is supposed to generate video.

Funding and public interest. LLMs have been around for a while and they aren't really that different than they were a few years ago tech-wise. The question was always about being able to get good data and compute power for training

I'm drawing parallels to what you are saying. I'm saying that just because a technology is disruptive doesn't mean it has to completely obliterate the thing that came before it. The internet didn't kill books and social

One example I could see is if you have a certain brand/product, you could try making as many forum posts and articles about it as possible in hopes that the AI picks it up as a solution to the user's problem. Kinda like SEO but fo

Same reason people still read books. It's less popular than it used to be, but still very relevant. Also the same reason people still hang out in real life even though online game, chat services, and social media exist. These are tools

The rural part doesn't explain why housing in places like Tokyo has not increased despite population increase, or why dense metro area used to be affordable. We need to fix the root problem. There are people getting priced out of place

What is substantively different about any of these places that require different zoning laws? Do you think someone is just going to build a mega skyscraper in rural Montana because they can?

So Tokyo isn't affordable and livable because it's dense? I lived in Japan so I understand where you're coming from...but the fact that "fleeters" are even a thing should tell you they are doing something right with

One of the few places I was able to recapture the early internet magic was on Discord from 2015-2018. Unfortunately, that is very difficult nowdays with the popularity it's found. When I was using the internet in the late 90's
