This is the site that convinced me to seek out and buy a PDP-8 of my own back in 2008. Not a PiDP-8, a 1971 PDP-8/e with 12KW of core memory, a TU56 DECtape, a VC8E vector boardset, and a couple teletypes. And then a '73 8/m.

There's only one iPhone manufacturer, and that seems to be extremely important to many people-- even extending to limiting their dating pool, apparently. https://www.cnet.com/culture/iphone-or-android-your-phone-ch

Metros got the good stuff earlier! The little rural town in Illinois where I grew up, Bushnell, only got local dialup in early 1997, and something approximating broadband in about...2010(? I left in 2001); even that was lastmiled with wirel

Group threads in one manufacturer-provided chat program get annoying. Venturing outside the defaults by using Signal or WhatsApp (or Threema or Messenger or...) would mitigate this. I suspect the root of the problem is folks accepting def

Then I still have the local backups that I make every time I clear out my phone. Now, if I get banned from Google the same day my house burns down, that could be a problem.

What I get from Google Photos is that, regardless of bad luck or incompetence on my part, someone else takes care of backing up a copy (at reduced quality) of all my photos no matter when I take them, and does so for €0 additional spend or

Not really for ideological reasons: I simply find iOS frustrating. I bought an iPod Touch V1 when it first came out and was impressed relative to PDAs of the era; 2G iPhones weren't even available in Europe at that time. I own an iPhon

The cheapest iPhone is $429. An iPhone 15 not-Pro is at least $799, a Pro $999, up to $1599. Is that cheap?

What on Earth would drive that perception? Do iOS users prefer dating other people who will spend lots of money on a status symbol? This sounds like nothing but a thinly-veiled attempt at discrimination based on an assumed level of wealth.

Alright, looks like I got bad intel. It's F40 that will drop the X session for KDE[1,2], coinciding with the Plasma 6 plan to phase out X support. I understand GNOME is also planning to drop X. Evidently Nvidia is not being allowed to

Given that my pension age has already gone from 65 to 68 in the last 18 years, and I have another 27 years of work ahead, I'd say the trend line easily points to a mandated pension age over 70. It's not even a stretch.

This is how they fix the problem of falling birthrates incapable of supporting pensions with infinite growth: retirement carrot on a stick, tiny percentage of people actually get to eat it. Suicide will grow in popularity, mark my words.
