Hi - I didn't "make" this but my community did and I'm so proud of what they made. Happy to take any and all questions! Just posted a Youtube video about our new docs launch as well https://youtu.be/OSOxl

If you're not using OBS, Ping is not for you (just yet). OBS is the Linux of the live video space. It's a necessary piece of every professional live creator's pipe. We're the first solution in the space building INTO OBS

We've been using Axiom at Ping for awhile now and it's 100% the drop-in logdrain we've been looking for. Couldn't be simpler. Team's great too. Highly recommend

tRPC has been a lifesaver for us at Ping.gg Never had such a seamless experience building and deploying “full stack” apps. Multiple classes of bugs just, like, don’t happen now? Helped build up a lot of the GraphQL tech at twitch, and I sti

Lambda =/= microservice. I run my entire company off of a single lambda function and a single Next.js project - best DX I've ever experienced.

This feels a lot like the growing Vercel + Planetscale solution. (or Netlify/Cloudflare/Amplify + Cockroach/Supabase/Aurora) Vercel provides CDN caching for static assets, edge functions, and lambdas. Planetscale provide

Been using GrowthBook for a few weeks now at Ping Labs and man, this is exactly what we needed. We're a small startup moving incredibly quick. I was shocked at how much setup time it took to get a simple feature flag into our app with

I'm getting a suspicion of an "umbrella manager" here, like the boss is a storm and your manager has done a good job keeping you out of it. Either that or he threw you under the bus, but that feels less likely. I would try an

They use those things for some very specific math-heavy transforms and rendering - still all Javascript for the UI. I’ve used WASM for some ffmpeg-in-browser stuff too. The belief in WASM as a method to build client-facing software is an am

Without a strongly inferred type system, all of the things you’re describing around “changing everything to change one thing” are just as much a problem. In a well typed system, you can choose how deep you want your changes to go. Let’s say

You should check out the video I link at the end - the most complex problems have the exact same solutions when your types are inferred :)

Webpack is no longer a dependency of Next.js - this was the big announcement about the compiler. You will have to opt out of the new SWC compiler (if this is an option atm)

When you say "+ dependencies" do you mean the package lock file? I measure written-by-humans LOC. This particular rewrite happened to drop about 14 unnecessary deps in favor of vanilla Node.js, Typescript and Socket.io

Honestly I expected it to take at least a week or two. The team that owned the backend made it seem like there was a lot of "super tough magic going on here", which was a lie on its face. Lesson learned for sure - spend a few hour
