This is HUGE for the independent film world. It's currently incredibly hard to sell an independent film online via a well-known and trusted channel that people are used to buying through. The nearest equivalent before this was getting

Do you have a link to Kevin's post and Maciej's responses at all? I (and I suspect a lot of other readers) completely missed all this, and whilst I'm not very interested in the drama, I am interested in the points you bring u

This is really cool. Nice one. It will desperately need a moderation queue. Even smaller established websites get a ton of comment spam these days. I'd not even consider setting up any commenting system that doesn't have robust

Agreed. I'm fairly seriously liberal and my filter bubble tends very liberal too. There's somewhere between significant and overwhelming support for Basic Income within that group from what I've seen.

Yup. If I post anything on SO or related sites it's because I hope to get an answer before the question is inevitably closed. I just assume that my question won't fit their guidelines, regardless of what it is, these days.

Assuming you wanted to very precisely map a small area (50mx50m or so) to the maximum resolution possible, and you had a budget sufficient to buy and place 20 or so wifi routers, what sort of resolution could you get? I'm looking at th

You might not want to do that. Ad clicks cost, sometimes. But sometimes they send a positive quality signal resulting in reduced costs to run that ad in the future. (Or then again you might. Because you'll screw up their A/B testi

Gatling is my preference. http://gatling.io/ It's the successor to JMeter, self-hosted on a server (or multiple servers), and provides a lot of useful features. Some very nice reporting, full useragent control, path of

They release a lot of additional free content (or used to, anyway. Not so much these days I believe), and the support burden is far higher than it would be for a release-once local game.

Much as I'm in favour of private servers in general, this statement doesn't really work. Blizzard have to - legally have to - pay the people who do customer support, development, art, writing server ops, etc. That adds up to a lot

That cast's vastly beyond the reach of anyone not spending $50m on a movie. Steve Buscemi alone is enough to open a picture. And I'd argue Louis CK is, at this point, big enough to qualify as close to A-list by himself. He's

Yes. Documentaries are a completely different world to narrative feature films and one I don't know a lot about. The financials work very differently.

Webseries are a slightly different kettle of fish to feature films, and generally in the indie world people draw a distinction between indie movies from relative unknowns (which can cheerfully include people with multiple features under the

I do wonder whether the licensing snafu that is the movie world is, in the long term, going to kill it or at least badly damage it as an artform. We already know it's hideous and irritating from a consumer's point of view. But wha

They are less satisfying, but not for that reason so much. Bare-knuckle fights can go on for a long, long time. I can't find the source just now, but I recall some fights went on for up to 24 hours. That doesn't televise well.

It's not great on high-end computers either. The PC I'm usually browsing from is high enough spec to meet Oculus VR's recommended spec for VR experiences (just about). But YouTube on FF is still pretty unusable.

This seems like the rare case where a more descriptive title would really help this item. I nearly didn't click on it, because I had no idea it was relevant to one of my major interests, photography.
