This takes me back. In high school I actually modded my TI-89 (circa 2001) with a lower Ohm resistor. The clock ran on a simple RC circuit, so you could "overclock" it by soldering in a new resister. Got a pretty impressive bump a

I agree. Compiling to C as your target just feels like a let down. I guess if you have to compromise on the hard parts why not target something like WASM or JVM bytecode? At least then you learn two interesting things.

I grew up on a farm in north central Montana. EVERY farmer, even the bigger wealthier ones, all ran at least some equipment that was 30+ years old. We were a mid-sized operation and ran equipment that was at best between 10 and 40 years old

I had this "game" growing up! As I recall, since I guess it has been 25 years, wow, only the preset autopilot stuff was something I could do. I recall trying to fly from Earth to Mars, or something, and getting very frustrated. I

It has been several years, but I think I was prescribed 5000 IU daily. As I recall I didn't have any troubling purchasing a bottle immediately at the store so it wasn't an uncommon dosage.

I ran across this notion for the first time when I started a job in finance a few years back and as an interview question they asked me about it. I hadn't heard of the notion and so afterwards tried to find some good resources online t

Can confirm. Doctor recommended that I start taking Vitamin D daily after a physical a few years back. On their advice, I purchased a bottle at the doctor's recommend dosage level and started taking pills daily. Within a week I stopped

Lightbend is planning to end support and development of Slick? This is the first I've heard of this. Can you point me towards what they've said?

The two major SQL libraries in the Scala ecosystem these days are Doobie ( https://tpolecat.github.io/doobie/ ) and Slick ( https://scala-slick.org/ ). With Doobie you manually write your queries, and then

I exercised 3700 options at 28c shortly before the company let around 25% of staff go. Found out just a few days ago that the company is being acquired with shares at $1.20. Pretty good for what I thought was going to be worthless.

Are you contending that virtue signalling isn't real, or that what is claimed to be virtue signaling isn't and so the phrase becomes a kind of slur? My opinion is that virtue signalling is real, and, further, that "signalling

Shipping with 8GB memory by default just seems absurd. Also, having only 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports seems a little light as well. I would hope to have had 4 ports at least.

From what I understand session types capture the valid state transitions, and messages for each, that define the hyper-state of the two parties communicating. This means that they are only capable of describing session-oriented protocols. B
