Predictably, the web servers are an afterthought for branding so that users don't have to edit configuration files and operate at a command line. (a) 99%+ of people buying these things do not know or care about security, aside from som

Get an enterprise router/firewall. Also most of these vulnerabilities (as the article points out) are in the web server. If the web server isn't exposed,it isn't of much practical security concern. I've also run DD-WRT

I've played a bunch of them a bit, and nothing comes close. Some of it probably has to do with timing - a true sandbox game when there was a cultural match with the desire for that environment. Nowadays if you had a game with glitches

I don’t think this really covers the whole topic, but yeah the Twitter thread is toxic in the exact way most threads are tbh... I’ve been using C++ for about 15 years now, and also tbh, and dislike just about everything beyond 11-14. The c

It is typical enterprise sales. If the prices aren't listed, it usually means you're charged based on what they estimate you can afford for the value-add. It may be $12k/yr for a big company and $1.2k/yr for a small on

great point. My thought on (1/3 = 0.3333...) * 3 = 1 = 0.999... was that it is intuitively obvious that the "problem" is that we use base-10 for decimals. There is nothing magic or unknowable about the quantity 1/3. I&#

Yes I do remember reading the one - maybe it was Google IRS - that they tried replacing cobol with Java. Maybe in some cases they just need a new IBM mainframe instead of re-written software.

COBOL isn’t falling apart, the systems are exceeding their design limits. “Oh if it were just written in a modern language everything would be fine”. Not true - we create modern systems every day that would choke and die if they had to sca

It isn't bad advice to hedge your position with options, although doing it short term as suggested here is an active trading strategy and inherently more risky. Contrary to popular belief that options = gambling, this is the #1 real ut

Chances are low to identify someone (for the time being, but increased video quality and facial recog. vs. a simple driver's license/ID database may change that soon). Obviously like you said, nothing you can do with a face mask.

yes. You know the lower bound on price is 0, and the upper bound of infinity is probably of no practical value, so you can pick something like 10 or 100x max all-time. Volume is the same, 0 to infinity, but again you can pick a distributi

Devising a set of parameters that backtests 100% means nothing - there are an infinite number of parameters and models (or more accurately, algorithms) that can backtest any data set like this 100%. In that sense, the math and "indicat
