if you lived in the Earth’s core (~6000k) the surface (~300k) would be a rounding error above absolute zero anyway

Just some rough physics.. Q = m c ΔT m = mass of the crust (roughly 10^22 kg) C = specific heat of crust (roughly 1000 J/kg·K) ΔT = 1 K Q = 10^25 joules would be needed to lower the earths crust by 1 degree K About 10,000 years worth o

In my opinion, the best thing to do would be for Quebec to start being a data center world hub. They have enough energy to power all the world’s data centers, and they would essentially be exporting their energy by way of offseting demand e

ah, Quebec. So much energy but nobody can buy it! Ontario can’t.. New England wants it but keeps hitting NIMBYism.. NY wants it but needs new infrastructure

Yeah, new england for example has high energy costs because of 1) a lack of local energy sources and 2) reluctance to build new gas pipelines.

I absolutely love the White Mountains and it’s what I miss most about living in New England. In my opinion the best day hike in the country is the Franconia Ridge trail

it isn’t really all that difficult, but it is difficult to build in the places that the jobs are. There are tons economically depressed towns that would absolutely love to have an infusion of property tax revenue

The problem is “where”. Building them in random lots in Florida or upstate New York is exactly what builders were doing in the runup to the financial crisis. Building them in already-dense places is always tricky because of NIMBYism

Sidebar but HIV has led to some really amazing antiviral research. I really hope that this research will be helpful during the next pandemic. That’s a silver lining for a truly horrible disease.
