I’m curious if you’ve tried TrueNAS (was previously called FreeNAS). It offers a pretty streamlined GUI for the common stuff and is free and open source.

I’ve found TrueNAS (previously FreeNAS) to be quite good and I’m surprised to see no mention of it in the article or this comment section. I’ve had a pretty good experience running a basic NAS server for my family. It runs Plex well in a BS

Was in high school in the 2010s and I had to buy a TI-84. They have a version with more storage and a color display but it’s still that same calculator all these years later.

Have you tried Nvidia’s GeForce Now? I would be curious to hear your opinion of it compared to the other similar services you’ve tried. I’ve heard the most good things about nvidias offering in this space.

Isn’t that precisely a use case for sand boxing? If I know zoom doesn’t need file system, I can deny it access and guarantee it doesn’t use the file system without me knowing about it.

I had an older X1 yoga that ran Arch great. I now have a newer X1 yoga and got lazy and just threw Ubuntu on it. Since 20.04 everything including fingerprint reader is working great.

This is true, retail Thinkpads are targeted at businesses so they’re priced fairly high. I’m sure many companies negotiate lower rates. Most of the reason you see these laptops so widely recommended is the secondhand market. Once those bus

I’m curious to hear what about creating a multi-page application you found to be limited by react. react-router solves this problem quite well. Personally I’ve had a lot of fun using create-react-app to quickly get rolling on side projects

This is spot on. Every now and then only one of my AirPods will connect and then it’s just putting them back in the case over and over until they start working again.

The fact that you can’t specify a default music app on iOS also bothers me quite a bit. On Android, assistant knew what app to use so I could just ask it to play something and not have to specify “on Spotify “. Of course this problem extend

Huge fan of last.fm. I haven’t been using their discovery features (though I may start now that you’ve mentioned it), but I absolutely love all the listening statistics they offer. I find it super interesting to see how my listening habits

I have an extremely similar setup as you, however I will note that the quality of android TV apps seems to be rather lacking. Specifically Spotify will randomly disconnect from my phone and stop and Prime Video cannot play UHD video properl

I generally agree though I will say that platform exclusive music still exists. I’ve seen this primarily with hip hop, especially when Tidal was trying to break into the streaming scene. Apple Music also occasionally has platform exclusives

It seems a bit absurd that this is still a reason to say 'fuck ubuntu' when they listened to user feedback and reversed that feature. I can't think of any other similar missteps in recent years.
