Binary search reduces the search space exponentially as it proceeds, so actually quite a lot of the total comparisons can hit L1d cache. (Maybe half of them for a ~250GB dataset.) Of course, you could keep a cacheable partial index of your

The federal agencies governing food labeling are very effective. I'm okay with companies employing people to figure out how to live just barely inside the bounds of legal labeling. To me, that's just evidence that the companies co

With DOOM (and a little bit with Wolfenstein), ID developed a game that encourages an almost reckless play style. You can get into a rocket fight with your opposition, sustain a fair number of hits, heal in the next room, and repeat. Their

I believe that creating a traffic rate-limiting system, which is more cost-effective than simply echoing back the requestor's IP address, is likely to be a complex task. However, I haven't personally performed the calculations to

I've heard that some countries half converted and it's been a disaster for them. They're using grams and meters but are still clinging to on the old base-12 time-keeping system. I hope the US doesn't stumble down the sam

I don't think that TillE meant "the problem with wikipedia is that wikipedia is an inch deep." I think TillE meant "the problem with training a chatbot grounded with wikipedia is that wikipedia is only an inch deep.&quo

They discuss that in the article: Reddit does have a feature to export your data into a GDPR archive, but it's pretty barebones ... the highest fidelity data comes from the API.

That's not going to get through even the most rudimentary anti-phishing filters, and at least some email clients still hint to you what's going to happen when merely hovering over that link.

Some elevators are clever enough to detect kids messing with them. If you select enough floors, they'll just deselect everything soon, including your errant selection. Admittedly, that's not very helpful unless you somehow knew th

I did the same thing the other day setting up an iphone. I went back to fix my birthdate, but it prevented me for a while, telling me that my real birthdate was "invalid" or some such, and that I should try again later. Eventually

Neither fishyidea nor 262119 show up in haveibeenpwned's database, so they're at least uncommon. Neither of them look to have much entropy, though. 2x211y doesn't look very random to me. 2 and 1 are consecutive, and there ar
