In the only compiler I'm somewhat familiar with (OCaml), a decent amount of the work is done in AST->AST transformations. In the AST, every node is annotated with a location, which is a tuple of filename, line number, char start, c

I've been out of the JavaScript world for years now, but I last used Bluebird which has Promise.props[1] with this behavior. [1] http://bluebirdjs.com/docs/api/promise.props.html

With what compiler? Targeting what architecture? The question is underspecified. "I can't know" is correct.

It iterates over all key/value pairs. For each value, if it is a promise it waits for it and replaces it with the result, while non-promises are left as-is. This is a fairly common function to have in promise libraries.

> I miss the days where having interns was a common thing. Has this really changed as much as you think? It is well-known that the tech giants (Amazon, Google, Facebook, etc) hire a number of interns - from what I've seen, I'd

Money market funds would likely be appropriate (I believe Vanguard actually does this for you, rather than keeping cash lying around).

I think the confusion is not where the figure 1/5 comes from, but rather why that is the change in profit. It looks like you meant revenue.

They claim to have an SDK. Assuming that goes public (why wouldn't it?) it's 12 games + anything else they release + anything the community comes up with.

I'd expect the top decile number to be heavily driven by public companies, though. Especially with the recent IPOs, you're now looking at Google, Apple, Facebook, Lyft, Uber, etc all of which pay a huge portion of their comp in st

It still sounds awfully similar. If you're firing ~30% of hires after the first month, then you're clearly treating it as an extended interview. And the first month of any job (in software, at least) includes a lot of training&#

I mean, we have plenty of people take ~this offer every year. The term is more like 3 months, and we call them "interns". For people who already have full-time jobs it seems like a much worse deal, though. I certainly wouldn'

Based on the source I think you're referring to (mentioned in a sibling comment), it is 40%, not "most". Further, it is clear that height restrictions are a minority of that. I think it is clear that zoning is a primary caus

Your argument implicitly rests on the claim that most of NYC buildings are built right up against height restrictions. I can find no evidence for this, and frankly it doesn't make much sense - have you seen the NYC skyline? Nearly ever

The reason you're getting pushback on using the term front-running to describe this is that it is a blatant misuse of words for the purpose of painting a behavior as bad without needing to say why. You've taken a legal term that d

It's possible to express an opinion on the relative value of two stocks while remaining neutral on their correlated returns, by going long one/short the other in the appropriate ratio.

Not true. This is called "garden leave" in the financial industry and is quite common. I believe the theory is that a lot of a trader's knowledge becomes obselete quite quickly, and it is cheaper to pay a former employee for

Yes, in a garbage-collected language a ref cell is typically unhashable since the only identifying data about it is the pointer location, which could change between calls to the hash function. However, you can still define equality pretty

I'm in a similar situation (~55% of comp is bonus) which is in finance, but most FAANG devs will see something similar, especially as you go more senior, although with an emphasis on equity rather than bonus.
