There's a pretty big difference in the institutionalization of racism between the two states. At this very moment there are statues of Confederate soldiers on the grounds of government institutions. If you're black and you have t

Thanks. I assumed it was more densely populated than that, but now that I think about it it's obviously a human-scale set of passwords.

Honestly, it might be better if the system has run out of PIDs that a process fails to fork and kills a lot of other processes.

Why do you even need the jump table? If the hash function is working you should get quite close just by dead reckoning.

You're right. A bloom filter is a random projection of the input domain. A random projection of a uniformly-populated random input is not useful. A large set of password hashes should be already maximally entropic.

I think you're going pretty easy on Oklahoma, perhaps just because you like it for other reasons. Oklahoma would put people in prison for consensual same-sex relations as recently as 2003. The law remans but the US Supreme Court struc

Some of the smaller American cities are also the best for bicycling. Davis and Madison come to mind. Most mid-sized or large cities are outright hellscapes, including most of the cities in the SF area and even most parts of SF itself. A goo

Sure, sorry, I meant the actor model in C++ specifically, according to the papers published by the authors of the library that is in this post.

"Serious cultural barriers" undersells it. They're out there in Tulsa right now trying to figure out how many black people are buried in unmarked mass graves resulting from the deadliest race riot in American history. https:

"Actor" architecture is supposed to enable high developer productivity but it's been a decade since the article so I wonder how it's working out? The most prominent project of which I am aware is FoundationDB.

For a home user I would think a relevant aspect might be the ready availability of well-integrated systems like the NUC. I just replaced a NUC with a new NUC even though I am aware of Zen2, I know it has its qualities, and I know how to bui

They may still be comparable. If the point of Lepton is to save space, and if a round-trip through Brunsli costs less than Lepton encoding while saving similar amounts of space, then it could be a design alternative.

The pushback will come from two places: people who can't write (the overwhelming majority of people) and people who usually act impulsively and without a sound basis (also the great majority of people). The presence of these classes of

Yeah, not advocating for chipkill, but the OS has to know how to interpret the machine check syndromes, is all I was getting at. This has been a problem for me on Skylake-SP with Linux, to name one.

If you're not sensitive to main memory latency, just say that. Don't try to tell me that 25ns is not relevant. It's ~100 CPU cycles and it's also about 25% swing from fastest to slowest.

Also sort of interested in this comment. It can be difficult to make ECC useful. There's chipkill vs SECDED, for starters. On paper, EPYC Rome has chipkill. More important than paper features is integration with the board firmware and

Your comments about Rome are completely incorrect. There are four main memory controllers in this architecture and some of them are further from some CCDs than others. In the worst case, accessing the furthest-away controller adds 25ns to m

You can configure it in different ways in a BIOS but the physical reality remains that it is NUMA and some accesses take longer than others.

Isn’t the intel 6208U a strong competitor to the AMD 7302? At the same price and TDP it has higher clock speeds and a unified memory domain, compared to the AMD 4-way NUMA architecture. It seems like you can make a case for either, dependin

If this is really your impression of the industry, you must be really young. It’s not “long-moated”. Intel was in a similar situation when the Opteron was current, and before they had to go head-to-head with Sun and IBM and before that nobo
