Also out of curiosity, have any of the original vanguard for FOSS (Stallman, ESR, Torvalds, etc.) made any recent comments about this trend from MS?

I would assume the parent comment's idea is based off of an assumption of some sort of ISRU (in-situ resource utilization). Which, to be fair, is tricky.

I own a DK1, and agree with you on a lot of these points. I would add that while first-person shooters universally made me sick to my stomach within about 5 minutes, flight sims generally never did. My guess is that being seated in a virtua

Is OpenGL really that far behind the curve now? I remember a long time ago it performed much better for me on some games (I'm talking Half Life 1 days here), but in the 15 or so years since then its pretty much fallen off of my radar.

I think we have a pretty good intermediate where I work: closed offices of 3-4 people, with open collaborative workspaces available to anyone without needing to book them. It's gov't though, which tends to be neither an intellectu

I had a large interest in discrete convolution operations a few years ago, particularly in application to digital image processing. Two papers that I published may be of interest to those here: [A paper that as a lemma demonstrates the infl

Having left the Army just as the awful ACUs were being phased in, I have to wonder which politicians and/or general officers got their palms greased for that to have become the uniform pattern.

I think it is generally seen as a process that ends up pricing out and displacing the people who used to rent within an area (or even own, if property taxes end up spiking), thus dissolving the original community.

On the other hand, new launch vehicles are good for jobs. Well, probably only in Huntsville and nowhere else, but Sen. Shelby will see to it that nothing happens to that work, even if its to the determinant of NASA as a whole.

FWIW, I'm a developer on a macbook largely because I would like a portable UNIX-y system that doesn't suck. With drivers that work consistently, and UI (hardware and software) that feels like it was actually tested by an end user.

In our team, we created a "random" channel for animated gifs, unrelated links, etc. to keep from cluttering the work-related ones. So far, it seems to have worked well.
