I think that we'll reach "good enough" - and that the commercial offerings won't have much tangible benefit for at least simply being "fancy autocomplete". Currently you don't really use LLMs for designing

I think this is more comparable to the bajillion JS frameworks that popped up between like 2015 and 2020. Same kinda deal with the big frameworks either surviving (likely with large rewrites for improvements) or succeeded by a replacement.

I keep seeing projects either like this, or are essentially this with a prompt pre-pended. How/why are you paying for this? The api get's expensive fast.

Serious question - what if I want it to hallucinate? If I want it to make a story about something ridiculous/impossible? For example GPT3.5 will refuse to make a pretend paper about "the discovery that ferrets can breath underwate
