Don’t know many smart people. I’ve interacted with some, followed others, but admittedly I’m not sure where most of them work. Offhand one person I know works at some small noname company working in niche industry they enjoy. Not sure of mu

Learning COBOL is the easy part. My understanding is the hard part is becoming familiar with insanely expensive, proprietary mainframe platform that’s you’ll find in most COBOL work. I know IBM has some sort of self training material, but I

Even if you’re in an area where $60k is decent, I’m not sure it’s as great as it sounds. I remember talking to an electrician turned Uber driver a couple years ago. He was making ok money, but with insane hours and in shitty environments. I

Same here. I didn’t even plan to go into the industry, but kinda just did it because it was the best (or only) option I could think of at the time. I had earlier plans, but they fell through and I was stuck. In retrospect, I could always sh

I finally found work a month ago, and of course as soon as I got a job I got a dump of emails from places I applied to in the fucking spring/summer either with a generic rejection (not sure why I generic ATS rejection requires months)

Nope. I lost my job in late 2022 and spend most of the year unemployed. Basically nullified all my goals and at this point I'm not sure if the bigger ones will even be achieved at this point.

I don’t think I had any particular job in mind when I was a kid. I was interested in a number of things (for example I’ve always enjoyed studying various times/places in history and liked to teach biology books when I was a kid), but n

It’s mostly just this site and the SV delusion it’s connected with. I’d bet if you ask random Americans, they would have no idea who Altman even is.
