I sold a 10 year old Asus Rampage III Black X58 motherboard last month on eBay for north of $650, which is more than what I paid for it new (even after accounting for inflation.) Granted, this was a limited edition board, but it is still 10

Because in reality, it’s only gimped for certain scenarios, and compared to the 2080TI, it’s a monster upgrade for ML! Here’s a dirty secret: there is a ton of ML prototyping done on GeForce level cards, and not just by enthusiasts or at sc

Having worked with the "original" Watson, I saw first hand how the system stumbled upon a particularly stupid but hard problem as it tried to scale. In 2014, I saw a demo of the original Discovery Advisor, which was at the time th

This is a rather poorly researched rehash of the same claims and arguments making the rounds on on the interweb over the last year, with very little if anything new to say... nor does this article make any coherent point that ties back to t

Couldn’t agree more. This is a rambling mess of an article which strings together past commentary on Boeing’s history and the 737 Max without making a coherent point. Furthermore, the author also gets a number of things wrong about his rese

The Europe vs US road/rail infrastructure debate is misinformed, woefully tired, and generally meaningless. It's all state by state, or country by country anyway, and when we are specifically talking subways, it's city by cit

The PA turnpike was built with a design speed of 100 mph and when I went to CMU, my record between Westchester County north of NYC and campus was 6 hours, 50 minutes (driving at times close to that design speed.) Three of the four speeding

I've long found a third drawback, which may be linked to the access to capital issue, is Pittsburgh's geographical isolation compared to the Bay Area and other tech hot spots. There's no major international air hub (anymore)

After tax pay better be higher in Zurich... it's one of the most expensive cities to live in, especially as an ex-pat, in the world (and considerably more pricey than SF.)

100% agreed. I'm from New York City but went to college in the 'Burgh, and while I do have an affinity for the place given the four years I spent there, I'd never choose to live there. It's a remarkably isolated city...
