The money didn't go to people. It went to banks. The reason the Fed issued the money to banks is so they don't collapse. Why would they collapse? Banks use deposits as collateral to make investments. During the crisis, a lot peopl

I'm not sure if the Fed pulled back the trillions it pumped into the banks during the crisis, but until that happens, banks don't have a real incentive to compete for deposits.

HN is not just for news. It's for whatever you deem worthy of sharing. It comes down to how many people agree it's interesting by upvoting :)

Once again, you have a journalist ruining a person's life by claiming they created BitCoin. Wired better be able to back it up.

I love the vector space analogy. I have been thinking about the same thing: that the simplest languages have a minimal set of "orthogonal" features; though it never occurred to me to describe them in those terms. But hey, it'

I have pretty much never seen a component specify wattage. They always specify the voltage and current draw. Voltage and current are easy to measure with a pair of multimeters, so it's more useful to have those numbers than wattage.

Re: global keyboard shortcuts. I found https://github.com/msfeldstein/chrome-media-keys a while back. It's amazing. It's not flawless, but it adds global controls to most websites.

I think so, but I can't find it, so I'm guessing it hasn't been released yet. Those seem to be excerpts released by the author.

Disk encryption is supposed to be the security measure that thwarts that, to an extent. The attacker can probably use your device, but if you have it set up correctly, they shouldn't be able to read your data.
