For network-attached storage IOPS limits packets per second, not bandwidth, since IO operations can happen at different sizes (e.g. 4K vs. 16K blocks).

I assume fsyncing a whole file does more work than just ensuring that specific blocks made it to the WAL which it can achieve with direct IO or maybe sync_file_range.

It doesn't really fix the underlying "didn't hire a qualified cryptographer" issue. By the time a third party scanning finds it in a released firmware millions of chips will already have been produced. Plus it would only

That's a ZFS online dedup limitation. I think xfs and btrfs are better prior art here since they use extent-based deduplication and can do offline dedup which means they don't have have to keep it in memory and the on-disk metadat

With extent-based filesystems you can clone extents and then overwrite one extent and only that becomes unshared.

That is a significant hurdle. They have to do it for each individual target, show up in person and each case can be contested in court. Scalable surveillance is different, just as scalable weapons are different.

IPv6 alone won't help if there are some firewalls sitting between the endpoints that will drop anything they don't know. Having two linux hosts without firewalls talk to each other over IPv6 without consumer grade routers (which t
