There's a ton of time-series databases out there (or databases that can be used as TS databases). Anyone know where LinDB differentiates itself?

I don't quite understand the YJIT excitement. A few benchmarks show that TruffleRuby generally beats YJIT, sometimes by a 10x margin. [0]: https://eregon.me/blog/2022/01/06/benchmarking-cruby-mjit-y

Since everyone seems to throwing their favorite format into the ring (), I will too: EDN [0] * no enclosing element (i.e., can be streamed) * maps, lists, even sets * tags (like "Person". UUIDs and timestamps are built-in tags)

Yes, please. :) I got a 3rd party MagSafe replacement, but I didn't trust the quality of the pins.

If you want an (entertaining) deep dive into heat pumps, I can recommend Technology Connection's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43XKfuptnik and its followup, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFEHFsO-XSI

Yeah, that's strange to me too. In Clojure (similar conceptual mode with Ruby, with sequences, hashes, etc.), the code is very similar, with predictable results: Clojure 1.11.1 user=> (first []) nil user=> (first {})

The frustrating thing for me personally is that we--as an industry--just keep rewriting/porting the same pieces of software from one API to another. Here is was Flash -> Steam SDK. In another HN article, it was PlantUML (Java) to D

It seems like a lot of the anti-Clojure sentiment boils down to 1) lack of static typing, 2) poor IDE support. I'm wondering, though, doesn't the same apply to Ruby, Python, and Node projects? I've over-hauled 80k line Python

That's fair. I remember those damn Java applets that froze the entire computer for a minute while they started. But that was 20-30 years ago, literally. A few things happened: SSDs, and Java startup time. A warm-start Java "Hell

Everyone is waiting for WASM to support garbage-collection (GC) officially. =) Clojure has Javascript, JVM, .NET, LLVM, Arduino, GraalVM, etc. targets, so rest assured, a WASM version will come out as soon as it makes sense!

From what I've noticed, the Clojure community has embraced GraalVM the most out of any of the Java community. Babashka, think bash+Clojure with built-in JSON+YAML+CSV+REST support, is very popular. https://github.com/ba

There's two pieces to GraalVM: 1. The new JIT 2. The Native Image, AOT Reflection is an issue for (2), not (1).

Yeah, quite different. Technical as much as procedural and psychological. In a Clojure REPL, you navigate "modules" like directories. And each directory has "files", or vars you've defined. Basically 'cd

Some quick questions: - are you using an already-existing HTTP engine, like Jetty or Tomcat? - how do virtual threads fit into a web framework? - do virtual threads make debugging more difficult? (A more general JVM question, I suppose) - a

True, the CL REPL is more useful than the Clojure REPL, but CL has a 20-30 year head start in development. Plus, Clojure was developed as a hosted language, and runs on .NET, Javascript, JVM, and even Dart (in-progress). Since exceptions a
