The effects of mobile phones, "social" media and AI are showing signs of Idiocracy. Thinking is abandoned, living is consumption, and difficult tasks are taken over by machines. What will differ is the autocratic nature we seem to

You're betting on getting getting ridiculously powerful chips to run on batteries in a tiny housing without cooling, while we can't even get enough RAM? It would be a terrible waste of resources. Now we already have TFLOPs wasting

And that's leaving aside the question of what it would affect. Elasticity/learning? Would it result in forgetting, or losing skill? Apart from the problem that I (and others with me) have with the "area X does Y" school

I suppose: a "go" returns an id, and then you call kill(id) to terminate it, as if it were a pthread or a process. In which case the answer is: no.

Apart from the fact that your comment is against the rules: please don't trivialize that quote. It has a profound meaning, and is completely out of place here.

I don't think stackoverflow contains code to integrate a keylogger in a mouse driver. Copy-paste isn't that bad. Most of the (coding) LLMs however probably do know how to do that. They enable script kiddies to make more dangerous

That doesn't make the slightest difference for two reasons: 1. Natural gas still produces CO2, which is a climate change driver. (And, since burning more of it will only increase global temperatures, the data center will have more trou

I'm color blind. I do see a somewhat different, brighter color, but it isn't particularly different from normal colors. That's just me (and my fellow aberrants)?

I thought about it again, but you can of course use your own types in this very way. You can "test" if a struct has a certain (zero-sized, embedded) member. It's just cumbersome, and needs to be implemented through-out your c

A simple call to get a list of sensitive screen areas would suffice. Add a bunch of options to make everybody happy, but don't allow replacement with different content.

Nah... I like Go, but this is a hack. Wiktionary --not the ultimate authority, I know, but still-- defines to hack as: To make a quick code change to patch a computer program, often one that, while being effective, is inelegant or makes t

The other day I was passed by one which kept up with the cars on the main road, which has a speed limit of 80km/h. Most cars don't go full speed there, but will reach at least 60km/h . On it were two young boys without helmet

You're not downloading from github, but from dl.jitpass.com. And an executable can do exactly the same as a shell script. The point is that whatever you're executing isn't verified, whether it's a shell script or a binar

That's false. I have a 20-odd year old newspaper in a drawer, and it contains so much more news about the world than today's paper. Even national politics is only covered when it's click-bait worthy. Economy? Just a little bi

I use that strategy, as it's really simple, and I rarely have to change IP addresses. Many providers just hand out the same address every time, others as long as you keep your modem running. A colleague who regularly uses a mobile conn

I haven't seen children doomscrolling HN lately, have you? But, whatever it takes. Social media in combination with mobile phones is destroying the latest generations. Add AI in the mix, and we're on the road to Idiocracy.

There aren't terribly great differences in the electoral outcomes for age groups. 18-34 is a bit more to the left, the rest ( including gen x and older millenials) are a bit more to the right. The difference between the two groups is

Not the person you ask, but Christians do have a habit of selectively applying scripture. Above all, right-wing Christians seem ill at ease with the bits about turning the other cheek, the good Samaritan, stewardship, greed, etc. Ostentatio

The use of "nations" in that comment is not clear nor substantiated, not in the comment itself, nor in the article. So just to be clear that DB is not tied to a nation, even though the name suggests it is.
