When being awesome means being at the top of one's game and being best in one's field, it's a positional good, a zero-sum game. We can't all be number one. While we might find personal fulfillment, we are still just a bunch of animals aroun

Since good SEO is a personal relationship with the client, it might benefit you to personalize your About Page. Clearly the price is right, but to sell me, I want to know that there is a team behind the effort.

NPR ran a piece the other day on the opening of the bridge [1] . I was struck by the response of a Marin county woman who was a child then: "We suspected the bridge was going up just so it could ruin Marin County," she says. Marin residents

It reminds me more of the tourist attraction that promises to show you a creek that runs uphill. The kids scream from the backseat to see it, dad caves and turns in and pays $5 for parking. Kid gets disappointed and as an adult vows to neve

As I said, making no call on the politeness. [obligatory] It is inappropriate and morally reprehensible. [/obligatory] Can you not look at nuclear reactions and separate that they are used to make a nuclear bomb? It was a succinct phrase. I

Some schools allow students to graduate earlier. I got out of high school a semester early; my sister and mother both received their Bachelors at nineteen. While making no call on the politeness of the phrase, "feather not dot" is one of th

My Fb feed has been thick with friends' updates of Socialcam viewing. 9 times out of 10 the still-image in the update is a revealing woman. I give it two weeks to a month before most folks associate it with the same.

I would not say the tech startup market is overvalued if one looks at money invested. On the other hand, if one considers the amount of time we're all dedicating to development and market research on our as yet unprofitable projects...

I agree, individuals need to evaluate the opportunity costs for themselves based on their own circumstances. For a policy discussion, the average or median is relevant; and you are an outlier. The median income for 25-34 with just a high sc

This is incorrect. It is unlikely the average individual will work more than forty hours, so the opportunity cost is realistically the difference: 10 hours. At 7.25 an hour, pre-tax annual that's a mere $4k, for a four year degree that's $1

The opportunity cost does not have to be more than one's liesure time. I worked thirty hours a week as a waiter in engineering undergrad and was a part time single dad. I averaged 17K a year. This is not unusual.

I don't know anyone who makes more than $500K a year. Everyone I know who makes more than $60K a year running their own business, says their only regret is not starting earlier.

Many thanks. I prefer the linear story (not for the range-index though): it shows how consistently extreme the high end is from the median relative to the distance the low end is from the median (from a dense concentration of homes just abo

Y scale in Log? I understand wanting to fit it in the screen space. Is Log not generally reserved for large differences in magnitude and for power laws? (I don't have an intuitive understanding of logs, so this is a genuine question).
