Take over and change? They were adding functionality: embrace and extend . It wasn't like most reasonable people wouldn't agree it was lowercase "javascript". Seems pretty similar to what's happening today.

I mean I get Oracle hate and stuff, but remember the great and lovely Sun Microsystems used all tricks in the bag against Microsoft with respect to Java late 90s/early 2000s. So, is "X abuses IP law" hatred is out of principl

TLS is one of the best success stories of widely applied security with great UX. It would be nowhere as successful with that attitude.

Not sure what result you are referring to but in my experience, many of the academic research papers use “students” as test subjects. This is especially fucked up when you want to get Software Engineering results. Outside Google et al whe

Obviously -- that is not my question though. I was curious if that data is exposed via API or within the image for front camera as well, so a third party app can do it.

The point was GC cost in general, not which Java/JVM implementation you choose. Try comparing two Androids with the same chipset at 4GB vs 8GB RAM. Anyhow, that was just an anecdotal unscientific experiment to give you some idea--obvio

IBM is a huge and quite balkanized company and I don't think there was ever a centralized push towards Swift outside some excited parties. With that, I would note that circa 2018 there was a DRAM shortage in the industry and people sta

Your comment is definitely true. However, if you study GC performance academic papers over the past three for four decades, they pretty much conclude GC overhead, amortized, can be on par with manual alloc/free[1], but usually the unwr

Which other sufficiently popular modern language that's more efficient than Java lacks a tracing GC? Rust and Swift are pretty much the only two choices and Rust is arguably much more pain in the ass for the average joe enterprise code

Right. The 7-day week cycle is also completely arbitrary, perhaps the most arbitrary of all time duration units, but having something of that nature has proven useful. The 7-day week originated in ancient Mesopotamia, particularly Babylon,

Why does it matter for your normalized baseline to be UTC? Why not your local time and convert everything into that in your head. The reference time zone seems arbitrary and your primary residence's local time makes the most sense IMO.

A better question would be what is the point of CNCF? Why would you voluntarily sign away your trademarks to some random third party without gaining something?
