I second the Pinboard suggestion. By paying the relatively inexpensive yearly fee, you get full text archives too which is great in the fight against link rot.

I made the jump from developer to team lead, and all the advice here is great. One thing that I wasn't prepared for and that I don't see other people mentioning (on a cursory glance at the replies) is that your reward function for

I just posted on Twitter about a programming version of NaNoWriMo. This is exactly what I was thinking. Lets see how I go juggling this, finding a job, getting a visa, having family visit from overseas and going through a wedding ceremony a

Yeah, I hear you about the note thing. If I even get into the US in time for my wedding, I have to apply for permission to go on our honeymoon. We have to plan two honeymoons, one in case I can get permission to leave and re-enter the US, o

Agreed. My fiancee and myself have been going through a K-1 visa since January, and while it's nearly over, I still have to fly to another city to get an interview before I get my visa. As far as I'm aware, the K-1 visa is one of the fastes

I don't use a single editor. Currently I'm using Visual Studio for all .NET related things, because it's a nice, overall IDE. I'm also getting into C++, for which I use vim in Ubuntu (although I am far, far from being a decent vim user). I

I've tried a bunch of computer based solutions, software designed to help with doing GTD, to-do lists, Remember The Milk, a fancy, small leather bound notebook, all sorts of things. These days I carry around a small, cheap 50c notebook that

I don't know if association with 'goto' is the best idea for a programming language. I like 'Stop'. They could call their tutorial 'Stop Programming!'

This. I use Chrome and Firefox. I keep work related sites in Firefox, and personal sites in Chrome. I'll often open tabs of interesting things in Chrome to read when I lose focus at work, or need a break. Sometimes I can have up to 30 tabs

I don't consider it changing my life, rather attacking the problem in a different matter. I will always chase my interests and goals, but rather than doing it for someone else's company and someone else's ideas, I'd rather do it on my own,

Me too, though I've only just realised that's what I've done. My current job is great - I work as a web developer in a small web shop. The work is low stress, pays ok, and has great perks like letting me work from wherever I want. As a resu

I too have found the Pomodoro Technique fantastic, especially when combined with a GTD-like list of tasks for the day, broken down as atomically as they can be. It's really helped me get through some of the most mundane work I've had to do

I spend a lot of my free time doing self directed learning from text books and frequently hit a wall where I don't know where to even begin. Usually I recognise this as either an incomplete understanding of the topic, or a representation of
