What false premise? Fivethirtyeight is not wrong. In this case, with seemingly reliable tests (>90% accuracy), only 27% of positive tests are correct. If you're talking about something that has an invasive next step, like a biopsy,

That's exactly my point. Citing the first amendment is a very weak argument, even weaker when he cites it in a situation where it does not apply. It's so weak that it weakens an argument that otherwise is very strong, that the p

I work actively in Xamarin with both iOS and OSX. Documentation can be somewhat lacking, but it's usually not too hard to figure out. Xamarin.Forms is pretty well documented, and if ever you need to dive into platform specific code, th

While I also use an ad blocker, it seems odd to be upset that they block you from viewing their site. You've (we've) decided that you (we) don't want their ads. They've decided they don't want readers who don't

A reminder to those writing open source READMEs: People coming to your project have probably never heard of it before. Tell us what this is and why, don't bury the lede.

I've started using IFTTT to work around some of this. For example, I have it set home/away based on an IFTTT geofence. Unfortunately, IFTTT doesn't do home/away yet, but you can write your own trivial "app" to

You did mention Sanders, by using him as the example which you quoted. You used him as a basis for your model, except that you used a flawed interpretation of him: > To elect someone who is known for his inability to compromise as a pres

You should put that tired narrative to bed. 50% of Sanders' donations have come from women. 69% of women under 45 voted for Sanders in New Hampshire.

It's not silly at all. Yes, politics are messy, but there is a huge chasm between talking to lobbyists and taking their money. The former is, as you point out, necessary to the process. But the latter inherently undermines the process.

I'd like to know if that's adjusted for inflation (not that there's been a ton of it in the intervening years), but it's certainly worrisome. Of course, it could all be a coincidence...

I am genuinely concerned about how the Clintons play the game. While there's nothing conclusive, there are a lot of correlations between their "friendships" and the influence they exert. It's even more concerning that th

I just signed up to see if they could renegotiate my Comcast price for me. It turns out you have to buy either 10 hours at $100/hour or 40 hours at $75/hour to get started. That's way too steep to try something out.
