I grew up by a lake in the bay area that was a very popular spot for Canadian geese, to the point they are considered a pest and have to clear them out every so often, and I currently go to UWaterloo. I can assure you that the geese behave

As someone who was raised in the bay area, the idea that these experiences meant that homelessness was at an all-time high in the city struck me as the thoughts of someone whose rose tint was fading from their glasses. One of my earliest me

I'm not sure why you think bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency, things like digicash existed since the early 90s. In any case, did you even read the post? The author explicitly describes the failings of bitcoin's political process

This is just the same old issue of DRM as before: create a system that works when the user is running it like they're supposed to, but doesn't reveal anything when they're not. And it's never worked. Probably can never w

I would take issue with the view of somebody's home as a commodity or an investment. Yes, it gets treated that way legally, but this is where people live, where people raise their families. There is a huge amount of emotional investmen

I see a lot of people posting things to the effect of "It's probably not a huge deal, just a firmware patch." That strikes me as unlikely. If that were the case, then why would VW take this risk in the first place? Clearly, t

Your Tor session should change exit nodes at least once every 10 minutes.[1] Ignoring everything else (e.g. pressing the new session button on TBB, restarting the browser, failed connections etc.), this gives us p(using a bad node)=1-(.

Nit: I think that should be 1-(1-.0.27)^25 ~= 0.5. Obviously it ends up being about 1/2 either way, but you're measuring the chance that you used one of the nodes, not that you avoided all of them.

A 10 digit number sequence has 33.2 bits of entropy. 3 diceware words has 38.7 bits of entropy. I don't think 10 numerical digits is easier to relay than 3 words. Although either would be far short of the ~90 considered fully secure, I
