As harsh as this sounds, I agree. My brother is my personal example. He had 4-5 chances at rehabilitation. First it was small stuff like pawning my mom's jewelry then it was breaking and entering to the neighbors or my dad's tr

My experience as we use SSDs for our embedded solutions and sometimes have very frequent writes is that when it goes the whole partition is pretty much hosed. I'm not sure what exactly fails but it seems like the file system index or

SCADA systems basically is the area you are interested in. Real-time industrial equipment monitoring (and control). Typically these are thick clients but people are clamoring for mobile and thin-client access to real-time data as well as

I work in an industrial space similar to GEs space and we generate high volumes of data from our machines in a distributed network. The data is really valuable in operating and optimizing our systems as well as doing reliability analysis.

I'm a manager of a small team and 2x wouldn't bother me too much as long as it was completed well enough that I didn't feel the need to rewrite it before it goes to production. Small things caught during code reviews don'

I wasn't voting but to me they are orthogonal questions unless you frame it in specific way. Also to me that is not what the article was about. It was about defining immutable structures. Julia is a client language and data must be l

Indeed. This is not a good thing for consumers. Comcast is way too big as it is and does not need to dominate the market any more than it already does. My former company was the market leader and acquired the #2 player and gov't even

I thought they have already been doing this in Australia[1] to some degree. I suppose they are not independent trucks but then I'm not sure what the new advantages are if a person is still involved. With the Powertrain, they can spli

I was just going to post this but forgot to login and here was your post. The hard part is the initial adoption when most cars are still manually driven and the good stuff comes when none of it is manually driven. How we get there will be

My experience with R is about 2 years old but your comments are spot on. I selected R initially because it had the only good autoregressive-moving-average (ARMA) calculation that was good and also fast that was requested by my users to do

I have Virgin and agree with the points here. Basically roaming on the $35/mo plan is non-existent but I have never had an issue with my phone not working in the areas I live and visit (unless there was a tower down). Sprint's 4

I think you are right about it being R&D cost. I'm sure its more than a webcam even at scale but I think that both probably have their pros and cons. How do the cams work the morning after a snowstorm when everything is white vs the r

Basically this alone may have significantly change the course of several European nations for the next decade because of policy made on the that paper. NPR's Planet Money team just released a podcast [1] that goes into the basics of that.
