While PhD may sound like a qualifying area, I don't think you should necessarily give up. The reason is a PhD in, say, Chemical Engineering, doesn't really help with electronic patents do they? Read up on Groklaw the issues at hand and see

Patent law is becoming a serious issue in I.T. Don't worry about low paying jobs initially, as long as it is in the right area. The debt is already going to kill you, so don't sweat it anymore. It is irrelevant to the discussion. Just don't

What's the point of minimalism if not to reduce one's impact on the world? Am I understanding this "movement" incorrectly? It is very similar to agile. Don't optimize prematurely. "You aren't going to need it"

I was just telling my son that a Buddhist monk is only allowed to own 4 kinds of items, not necessarily 4 items. Nowadays when people think they need to "own" things to be happy, hopefully it serves as a call to others that it is not only p

Not a problem really. People need security fixes. If they download from elsewhere, they won't get priority notification. You can also obfuscate your code. In the long run, you can also remove dependencies on WP, by writing your own code to

It would be more intuitive for hardware switches to trump software ones. For instance, if I push the power off button on my mains, I mean it. Not obeying this directive is the province of HAL.

The problem here is domain knowledge. Everybody understands what a To Do List is.

Multiplayer mode can be extremely hard and can take any fun out of being an indie game developer. I'm still not sure if it is the right abstraction to work in on day one.

The 20-under-20 isn't about "no formal education". It is about formless education, which is different to no education. Formless education is a style of seeking knowledge, not just from formal educators, but Ali from practitioners who are no

Engineering has been always about trade offs. Every time I'm raced to use reflection to get to private members, I'm reminded that these abstractions are never free.

Abstractions reflect a persons understanding of the problem space. Iterative game development is exploratory. There is some trade off between redundant code and ease of local modification without worrying about global impact.

Not that controversial in Python. GvR's attitude is use conventions, and "after all, we are all consenting adults. :)" I found this worked very well in real life.

The toolkits are really just a starting point. Most of them work on a callback manner, similar to how you'd deal with device drivers, e.g. someone pressed a button and you'd respond with showing/hiding another panel. However, if you wrote c

I'm sure they'd have change in requirements, but that happens in any project. However, the obvious distinction here is there is no development application, or approvals from government. This is the wild west.
