I'm really curious because this is not the typical YC investment. I wonder what is the kind of reasoning pg goes through, perhaps this is an exercise in customer development?

Most startups running unix use Java on the server-side anyway. Unless you are prepared to learn about tuning JVMs and learning its idiosyncracies, you could choose to pay the MS tax and use the CLR. The other option is to go with a dynamic

No, I do not believe Apple had reason to worry about market cannibalization. The iPod was a new product. The line was segmented well, with each having clear differences in form factor, eg you wouldn't be confused between what a nano might b

The reason is fairly straightforward. Power moves in social circles. It is the same reason why there aren't many lawyers who make it politically in China. Secondly, support has to be nurtured, and potential candidates groomed by power broke

This reminds me of the spate of hacks on Sony's sites. I wonder how many more MS sites are operated by third parties, and exactly how vulnerable are our personal information? Let the heads roll.

Some analysis here: 1. The publisher in this case has a track record, so there is less risk involved. 2. $15 for an adventure game sounds "well priced" 3. There is a bit of risk reversal on the pledgers since the game might turn out to be a

Percentages themselves do not tell the whole story. Better to use the total cost of ownership. A $1000 phone that loses 35% of its value ($350) compared to a $500 phone that loses 50% of its value ($250) can put things into perspective.

This is an interesting social AND a technical problem. The problem for FB is that it is all too easy for them to just fork git, create the necessary interfaces and then hope the git maintainers would accept it (they mightn't) or release it

Reminds me of taxation without representation. This is why people end up lobbying politicians directly instead. It gets more done for less. On NPR, Jack Abrahamoff said returns of 2200% are typical.

This reminds me of how totally ADD Google was before Larry Page became CEO. It just started all sorts of shiny puppy projects, or even bought companies like Piknik to support those puppies [1]. Google today is a much more focussed animal. I
