Yes, I agree. We just wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on what we did so far. It is supposed to be kind of a status update and thank you to some of the people involved so far.

It's a pretty nice service that shows the power and extensibility of Prometheus.

Just some topics, can elaborate on those later, if you want: - Development Setup (e.g. minikube) - Circuit Breakers - Managing Backpressure - Service Discovery - Encryption - Monitoring / Metrics - Domain Translation - Load balancing &

We generate structured logs, I.e. key-value pairs. Depending on the environment they are either formatted with logfmt or JSON. This serves our use cases quite well.

Well, basically we don't use email for internal communications. The only emails I send to or receive from coworkers involve some kind of external parties that only work with email. (Ok, I admit there are a few (very, very few) reports

I would very much encourage anyone to use Vault to manage secrets consumed by machines, but for personal credentials it's maybe not the best fit.

Everyone should be free to choose how he handles his personal matters. This is one of the reasons why we wanted to keep full pass compatibility. So anyone using either pass implementation can switch at any time. But I don't want to spe

Indeed, these providers offer "virtual servers" as well, but if look beyond that they play an entirely different game than AWS. The only relevant competitors to AWS are Google and maybe MS Azure. Both also US companies. No one e

It's also not very developer/ops friendly. Quite hard to set up currently. Not that this couldn't be fixed (as the client side), but no one is doing this.

That is a very american attitude, I'd say =) I consider it a management duty to stop people from working too much (which is a rather european attitude :D).

You can go very much the same debugging route with MySQL. There are similiar tools available for MySQL as well. The tooling discussed in the post should definitely not be a reason to switch from one DBMS to another. You need to understand y

A very impressive (ab)use of MySQL binlogs. There is a lot to criticize about MySQL, but the master/slave (binlog) architecture is incredibly flexible and with RBR it's even consistent ;)

I can only second Prometheus. It's modeled after Google Borgmon (and possibly Monarch) and excels in any flexible workload. Really great piece of engineering.

From a first look APNS2 seems to add very little value over bufort which we are running in production very successfully. I really wonder how you manage to send millions of notifications (over which period of time?) without much boilerplate
