Thanks for this! I've realised that Magit does not seem to rely on VC so I'm quite glad to disable VC checks completely. I'm seeing ~ 7 seconds of delay compared to the excrutiating ~20 seconds I was seeing before.

TRAMP is killing me. I have my Emacs setup the exact way I want it, but trying to work on a production server through Emacs is torture. Yes I'm multiplexing my SSH connections through a master control, yes I've tried other SSH mod

I don't know how far back "back in the day" is, but the UK sources below seem to show that alcohol (particularly spirits)[1] seemed to be quite popular in the late 1800s[0], and that in the 1550s it was Ale, 1650s it was Gin,

My mother did a lot to keep us fed, clothed, housed when we were growing up. She wasn't happy, but she wasn't sad either. I asked her once, decades later, how she coped with it all, and her answer still freaks me out sometimes. Sh

The article didn't really say anything you wouldnt guess yourself: repeated association in cinema. It does hint at a book that maybe just maybe started the association ( Castle of Otranto ) from someone who slept in a Gothic revived

(Unrelated) oh wow, ResearchGate actively begs authors to upload their full text in order to make it accessible, but prevent the public from downloading said texts unless you have a RG account?

New socks in the last 5 years have been visibly poor quality. The nylon band that hugs your leg loses it's stretch after a few dozen washes. My older socks of the same price and (seemingly visible) quality from 10+ years still have nyl

I'm happy to pay for caps, but they should at least roll over more than just a month. If I pay for 100GB internet a month, that should equal a quota of 1.2TB a year. That, or you reduce the amount I pay if I don't use my quota, an
