They can just stop giving them new GPUs, undercut their API prices by a significant margin(they have the same models!), set up transitioning pipeline, etc. They can cause OpenAI A LOT of pain if they want to.

Have you seen heart storm that happened yesterday? There is no point in controlling legal entity if the talent, resources and leadership isn't there.

Full legal ownership of what? How many will jump ship by the end of next week if Sam isn't rehired? What are the prospects of them receiving next funding round? Have you considered how much more difficult attracting target would be? Ye

I don't know, maybe because it's their main partner that have given them billions of dollars and which is literally running their servers?

I think they were really planning to do that. They wouldn't need $100B otherwise. Fabless chip company would cost 10-100x less, even if they order millions of chips right-away. You just wouldn't be able to spend THAT amount of mon

Your info about electricity costs is great, I should've clarified that my second question is about capex side of things.

How substantial are the savings from going "hot" in your experience?

My impression is that these power supplies are usually in separate rooms or even buildings, so you can have different temperatures there. > *It could be the case that the equipment needed to cool to 25C is not that different or more expe

While we are at it, can anyone explain to me why so much power is spent on cooling datacenters to ~20C, when you can just run it "hot" at ~40C with all hardware being just fine and cooling costs being many times lower(also capex c

No it's not. Don't even mind sketchy methodology, that number is just 13 years out of date.

After doing some profiling when that game released I'm not surprised. Game lacked LOD system, 70% of frame time was spent doing terrain rendering(IIRC it also generated mesh from texture every single frame).

It could've been made not only 10-20 years ago, but, probably even 100-200 years ago(sure about 20th century, not really sure about 19th).

And can you also explain "indefinite levitation" to me? IIRC you can do some levitation over metallic surfaces or magnets, but that would require power, wouldn't it?

All those phones did cost 200-300 IIRC. 500 was outrageously expensive. For this device it's 3500, will be much cheaper for non pro version plus production of critical components will scale up significantly. Sony can produce less than

Yes, they are going to sell 1 million. In this generation. Next generation will have non pro model. You can sell ten millions of that. It is not going to kill phones, but it will absolutely slaughter laptops. This generation is basically ju

I'm willing to bet that next gen consoles will at least match RTX 4090 PT performance. It will not take 15 years, it will take 4-5.

Yes, though it doesn't give much performance and you are better off using FSR2/other non-AI techniques like TSR.

How do you determine that this is the same bill? Like they can rename it and rewrite it. And can put it into huge omnibus bill like inflation reduction act.

You can buy RX 6600, which is roughly 2x faster than 1060 and has 8 gigs of VRAM for 200 dollars[1]. If we take inflation into account, 1060 did cost around 300$ in today's money. So basically you are getting 30% more ram and 2x perfor

Sorry, the fact that Xbox version is smaller confused me. What might be the reason for Xbox install being 20 gigs smaller than PS5 one given that PS5 compression is generally better?

The problem is that it wouldn't help. We have good enough solutions right now, but not many are using them. Better compression will be nice, but it will yield less results than adoption of something that is already here.

There is no hardware acceleration for PNG in any consumer device that I know of. And there is such thing as VRAM usage, if you decompress PNG to bitmap it would use 3x-4x more VRAM than BC7. If you decompress it from PNG and then compress t
