It's definitely a hard problem, but also an extremely important one as real life democracies also suffer issues like this to some extent. Obviously you'd need a bunch of rules around who could vote to prevent brigading, e.g. tenur

I would love to see an alternative that really focuses on moderation. Perhaps something that has three flavours of subs. 1. Public: these would be democratically run forums. The users would actually be able to vote for moderators, and perha

Personally, I think it's reasonable for a small 1-2 person shop, but if you are planning a larger company it's pretty irresponsible to build it around someone's API like this. If you can't feasibly replace a given API, t

They didn't even need to do that. They could simply have changed the terms so that user-facing clients like apollo either need to show reddit ads, allowing no ads for users of reddit premium. They approve api users anyways, supposedly,

Honestly, learning binary isn't something that will take any significant amount of time. This is not a tradeoff you need to make.

I've literally had to use knowledge of binary and number representation just last month in order to implement a lower level protocol. You may not use it in your simple CRUD app jobs but it's absolutely not "some old thing peo

In addition to the UX of Mastodon/Lemmy, I also think the moderation or lack of it is a major issue. It would be nice if this got more attention, because it's even a weak point of places like reddit. On the plus side, reddit does

I think they're wrong. I was building a product search app using the reddit api, but with their API pricing it isn't remotely feasible financially so I shuttered it. They may see $$$$ but I suspect they'll find very few taker

While it seems that some people feel reddit is "owed" something when its data is used by machine learning companies, the reality is that reddit themselves claims that posts are owned by users and so really they are not in any posi

I can't actually see a way to see for a given corporation, how much of their purchased offsets have been delivered and by what methods, so I guess it doesn't work for that.

It takes a 30s google search to find the Wikipedia page which explains their transition to a "capped-profit" company. Irony of asking ChatGPT instead of a simple search indeed.

No, people have noticed that continuing training of various types in narrow domains without including samples of the original training data biases it towards the narrow domain and makes it perform more poorly on more general tasks. Don'

Yes, we needed clever ideas from scientists to make them scale. In fact, we still need clever ideas to make them scale because the current architectures still have all sorts of problems with length and efficiency.
