The article headline on the $446k renovation cost is very misleading. They did not spend that much on the $1 (which they actually payed 6,000 euro for). They ALSO bought the property next door for 22k euro and combine the two into a literal

Safari supports ad blocking just fine. In fact I switched from a google pixel to iphone precisely for this feature. On the pixel there was no way to have ad blocking in embedded browsers, and of course so many apps defaulted to embedded bro

You mean the Canadian who went to the southern border to "get a new work permit" after securing a new job? Yeah, real sketchy that, applying for a work permit to work in the country.

Yeah I turned off all uber app notifications. It's pretty annoying as now I don't know when the food has come or when the driver is here, but the amount of ads I will tolerate is exactly zero.

If Instragram had a reasonable paid tier, like $5 a month, I'd do that in a hearbeat. I'd also use instragram 1000x more. Because it's ads only in north america, I use it the minimum I need to for networking purposes.

I'm honestly pretty damn pissed that even though I pay for the top tier of Spotify I still now get ads in podcasts on the platform. Yes, I can skip them for now, but when you're driving that's not always easy, and I have no d

The more important thing to me with any VLM is base OCR performance and hallucinations. It's not too hard to get improved average accuracy on very low quality scans using language models. Unfortunately these also typically produce larg

Hmm, so they do. I assumed because you pulled in a linux distro that the kernel was from that distro is used too, but I guess not. Perhaps they have done some sort of improvement where they have one linux kernel running via the hypervisor

MacOS apps can already be sandboxed. In fact it's a requirement to publish them to the Mac App Store. I agree it'd be nice to see this extended to userland binaries though.

Apple has had a native hypervisor for some time now. This is probably a baked in clone of something like https://mac.getutm.app/ which provides the stuff on top of the hypervisor.

That's very possible. You can already do that via the platform api easily (just feeding it your github project), so a light UI around that api would be very easy.

Knowing the enterprise space, my guess is that the only real changes are hardcoding continue to use only Mistral, and tying it into some sort of central enterprise licensing service. Holding back some novel models just for enterprise use se

While enterprise stuff is dead on arrival, their models for OCR and niche languages are indeed SOTA. Also, their local/small models are likely SOTA too if you are running in a constrained environment.

Yes, there are a lot of people who are anti-science. As in they do not believe the scientific method is a good way to find truth. There are people today who are rejecting very basic science that was accepted over a century ago.
