my guess is that competition for jobs at mega corps is actually going to become relatively fiercer because everyone now is seeking a flight to safety. i do wonder if that means that companies can get away with offering smaller compensation

doubt it for “big tech” eg Microsofts and Googles and Apples of the world. they seem to be largely doing fine despite whatever is happening to valuations. yes for companies with no profits and no sustainable business model eg the Ubers and

think it’s more like a barbell. last time Uber did a mass layoff it included a lot of more senior managers who had been there awhile. they are far more expensive than the entry level new hire who is actually doing the work…

anyone who follows the stock market will not accuse me of being hyperbolic about FB’s stock plummeting in recent months, and yes 5 months is also “a few” lol…

QQQ is down 23% ytd so they underperformed the Nasdaq 100 by 2000 bps. that is objectively “a lot” especially for a mega cap.

Yeah but that isn’t what I’m referring to. It’s clear FB is investing billions to build their vision of the Metaverse in house, at least for now, and my point is that they haven’t actually proven to anyone that they are capable of building

Agreed that FB hasn’t actually proven they can build something from scratch that reaches critical mass. They would’ve have been long doomed had they not bought Instagram. Every other popular app eg Oculus and Whatsapp was also acquired.
