Point 1: talent infusion is stated without evidence. Besides over-paying for Jet.com, I'm not sure what this is referring to. Point 2: Whole foods shows that AMZN is serious about entering the groceries business. It says nothing about

Are you paying below market? The good ones probably are shooting for better paying companies. I know some Hack Reactor alumni have made their way to Google.

Completely ridiculous. The model was not to raise rates in the future. The whole reason they could raise so much money was that they showed as they reduced rates, they induced more demand. They also had data showing increasing lifetime cust

Do you have an example for such a startup in recent history where the founder left within the first few years and the startup succeeded with a new founder? I don't think we can really value Uber at $70B; that's the headline number

You should read Brad Stone's The Upstarts. The outcome in China is actually pretty favorable for Uber. One-line summary: Travis (not Uber, but Travis) probably owns as much of Didi as the current founder/CEO of Didi. Didi is curre

I worked for a remote office of AMZN's and found that the office I was at had great work/life balance. At any big company, work/life balance will be very team-dependent.

That is nuts to only compare base salary. At the big 4, base salary will be <60% of total comp. It's possible that Goog will hit really tough times and no longer pay the annual bonuses and it's possible they don't offer eq

Sounds like you're simply living in the wrong place. Within 30 minutes, I can drive from SJ to a number of great hiking trails or take my road bike to some super fun hills. Of course the streets are empty after 9pm... people want to be

This is fairly well-written, but I disagree with two points. a) You might not know what you normally pay for groceries but I think most Americans have a rough sense of what they should pay for their items. Even if they don't know, it w

Are these restaurants just not that good to start with? If they were good, couldn't they increase prices and then increase wages they offer to staff? The article implies that the fast casual $10-15/person places are doing fine. My

This article is missing some key facts. It's important to realize that A9 (Amazon's subsidiary in downtown Palo Alto) has at most 500 people located there. They have the equivalent of 2-3 buildings, and they're not large buil

For people who need to get back to family, they won't eat dinner even if it starts being served at 5:30 pm. I agree w/ the person before; moving dinner back is less about saving money and more about saying that you have to earn yo

AMZN doesn't give cash bonuses; the RSU refreshes are treated like a bonus that pay-off in the future

In the short-term, this is good for AirBnB now that it's clear that AirBnB pays extremely well. The floor is actually $250k--almost certainly everyone will look at their own resume and feel they have more experience than this new guy.

Their comp is obviously top. I was impressed at how large AirBnB's offer is in every aspect--its base was already higher than the total comp of many of his other (initial) offers.

For people who are currently looking, they should be thankful for this post. This guy really was a master negotiator and provides lots of hard numbers. The key is to get some initial leverage (at least one offer from anywhere) and then keep
