Have you seen the Nokia Transit app? I don't use it, so I'm not sure. But from the last time I've played with a demo of it, it seems it might be helpful to you. I think it only runs on Windows Phone though (no website).

People seem to forget that Nokia still has another OS running on their S40 devices. And they keep selling well. The new Asha devices are pretty good. The way I see, they'll only become more and more important for Nokia as they "evolve" alon

Technic is just mechanics. The other three are quite the same, plus sensors/actuators and programmable. For a 8 years old I'd start with plain LEGO. And then introduce the rest a little later. But this depends on what the kid already likes.

I wish they had more details on this "design engineering" pack: http://www.legoeducation.us/eng/product/ev3_design_engineeri... It seems pretty cool.

My experience in the EU is that, even for EU citizens, the UK and (a somewhat distance second) Spain can be quite intrusive. For the rest of the EU and Switzerland, they almost never ask anything. But I definitely agree that China seems to

Dwarfs, elves, trolls, goblins, and plenty others come from Norse mythology. Orc I think was original to Tolkien, but derived from Old English for giants and ogres. Many others, like uruk-hai and hobbit, were original. Also, even though som

I do agree that it seems to make easier to learn (and get better at something) if you experience the subject. But it doesn't mean that one should take his/her own experience (usually quite limited) as THE truth. Which is too common a mistak

Well, it depends on what kind of research you do. My former team worked with different text corpora in multiple languages. Proper unicode support is/was very welcome.

All I can say is that I kept agreeing with most of the article as I read it. I do have a N9 and it is still the best phone I've had. Too bad it did not get a proper fighting chance and now it is unsupported. Let's see what Jolla brings as i

Hmmm. I agree that 'orders' is not an appropriate choice of words. But I usually don't interpret this kind of claims literally, so I took the GP remark as saying that in practice (IRL) there was no such 'wide gap in productivity', which is

I overall agree with you on "Code Complete", but where did you find data that disproves 'orders of magnitude programmer's productivity'? I can't reach the linked website. I'd be genuinely interested to check that. While still anecdotal, my

Microsoft's R&D mission is not. But Microsoft Research's is. The idea is that MSR explores (R), then Microsoft integrates what they feel is interesting into products (R&D).

In my view this is one of the things people in this discussion are not realizing. Microsoft Research is not R&D, it's R. The rest of MS spends a lot in R&D too, but MSR's work and goals are distinct. Of course transferring tech into
