With USFF machines being a few hundred dollars, or roughly the same cost as any other machine from dell, hp, lenovo... I'm shocked they bothered. I'd be less shocked if its just an old design with an off the shelf SBC stuffed insi

I'll eat my hat if you can answer any of those with enough specificity that "random alien cop"s could produce something useful.

No, just no. The solution here is to not show up guns a-blazing. The reason why swatting exists is because it seriously harms the victim. This is no more complicated than grade school playgrounds: don't give the bully what they want.

Dig into the OpenZFS 2.2.0 data loss bug story. There was at least one ticket (in FreeBSD) where it cropped up almost a year prior and got labeled "look into layer," but it got closed. I'm aware closing tickets of "futur

We have holograms that are in 'open' space. The problem is they aren't particularly fast, safe, or interestingly- quiet. The ones I know of converge multiple beams at a point; this results in a Bloom ( https://en.m.

"Even in humans"- thats a pretty steep assumption. I am fully aware that if the human heart is severed from the brainstem it will develop A rhythm. But what about other mammals? Dunno. Not going to assume. Theres also the tidbit

A DBA (doing business as) is $35. And not worth the paper its printed on if not filed by an actual entity... which cost $300+. AND you have to give some new nebulous federal entity because "money laundering," or sometimes "OF

It's not AMD or Intel enforcing the tooling. It's the feds. If anybody bothered reading the terms, they'd see its export restrictions.

my poor knowledge of biology says it's a deeply unsatisfying "heart beats when enough of the body has thawed for it to beat." If the heart depends on the brain at all in frogs.

Haha. If they have to have their hands on it, it's far more likely they're swapping a chip or if fancy- using a die channel attack.

I came to the realization over a year ago, that the only thing needed to be an "Advanced persistent threat" is an attention span. Not even a long one. Judging how many drive by's a random ipv4 address gets on aws, gcp, azure,

It's not a separate sensor- 30fps on an iPhone was more than enough. Turns out, when you have a known luminance, white balance, and frame-rate... the DSP to grab heart rate from a finger is trivial.

Maybe it'll help achieve a lock faster- but theres nothing else needed for GPS besides GPS. The military really doesn't like dependencies.

45drives is... bad. I cannot understand why people would use them- particularly for homelab. Three SC846 24x3.5" 4U can be had for no more than $400/ea and, theres 36bay versions. 60 drives in 6U is a crap ton of weight.

people really don't grasp that the slowest SSDs are still 3-5x faster than the fastest HDDs (including SAS drives. Yes, the dualport kind). And, Looking at the anandtech review of a vertex 3 way back in 2011...
