There's also Classic shell, which is free software. While I prefer Start8 I think that Windows 8 with either is in no way worse than Windows 7.

LyX isn't WYSIWYG but rather WYSIWYM (the "M" stands for "mean"), but I found it the most usable visual editor for word processing. Edit: Why the downvote?

Government forms served as Word documents with complex table-based formatting and "fields" made out of underscores are truly the worst. They are sadly ubiquitous throughout Eastern Europe, much like mathematics typeset using Word

Then again, a lot of corporate software is Java or .NET, which means a much smaller porting effort. Trying to run native Windows software under Wine, OTOH, doesn't end well (in my experience).

Ah, I see. Unfortunately, this seems to imply that after the present version the project will stop incorporating new mainline releases of Perl (Perl 7 and on) and will instead focus on recombining the previous releases of itself.

Not really a Fibonacci version number system since v(n + 1) = v(n) + n + 5, v(-1) = 0. It doesn't depend on v(n - 1), so while it's a recurrence relation it isn't a Fibonacci-type sequence. The next version should be 5 + 6
