I'm thinking of it this way. A guy builds a flamethrower to burn away the creeping slime that threatens to overtake your house. Someone else then supplies the fuel. You want to donate, but the builder says no. "The fuel is everyth

You're making quite a leap there -- asking OP what country they're from that doesn't have "any" unique offerings and conflating that with the idea that the level of self-pride is up there with America or Japan. Prid

There's a lot there to care about: gas mileage, the maintenance schedule and reliability, the interior feel, and most of all, the feel of driving it. The exterior appearance is the least consequential, least differentiated and most bor

I'm always amazed that so many feel strongly about car A looking better or worse than car B. The way people talk about the differences, it's like they're comparing an art nouveau house to a ranch style home -- you know, two t

Not quite. Off-gassing begins at a bit under 400F. And the assumption that it's "really tough" to reach either temperature (400 or 500F) is wildly incorrect for the realities of cheap stovetops around the world. Gas / pr

Keto diets are notorious for this -- some people are, apparently, genetically unsuited to extremely low carb diets and their body responds by ballooning cholesterol levels and possibly some other issues (has been a while since I read about

Could be hypoglycemia, which has been linked to headaches. One thing I've observed from going on / off IF several times is that trying to jump straight into the full fasting window can cause problems. If you normally eat on a 12&#

The accepted term for that idea is body weight set point. It's still a theory, but a lot of people attempting to lose weight seem to independently discover the idea as they rubber-band quickly back to their pre-diet weight.

I'm on the opposite side of this with my wife. She can go 5-6 hours after waking up without food. I can... but it feels miserable and like my brain doesn't really start working until I eat. On the flipside, I can eat my last meal

Wouldn't be quite correct to say her country of origin is "starving". A very small percentage of the population may be at that point, but not the majority. However, meat was (prior to her generation) a status symbol. Now it&#

Eh, I dunno about that. If I, say, flip over a chicken thigh and eat the kidney that's nestled on the back side (which can be found there depending on butchering method), seeing that organ inevitably makes me think of where it was, and

I've now been taught to rip right into the gristly bits. That cartilage cap on the end of a chicken leg is nice and crunchy. The tips of chicken wings are great when they're crisped. But yeah, I was also taught to kind of navigate

Is it really the village idiot? Or is it a national-level genius, masquerading as a local villager? Most of this stuff is really just memes being shared around. And memes, as much as they sometimes look like utterly uneducated trash (comple

I didn't like BoTW much. Possibly not for the same reason as you: I felt it was very pretty and had a lot of individually very nice game mechanics. But the world felt empty. Just a massive canvas for a bunch of little puzzle rooms that

This surprised me, so I checked. Moscow + St. Petersburg metro areas are 25+ million. They're actually 17% of the population, which is still pretty low considering their importance; Moscow's GDP alone is listed as $1 trillion, whi

A couple reasons. One, I believe the reason soybean was chosen for this study was simply its prevalence in US food -- not because it's special or unique. As an oil it shares characteristics with a number of others, and the most notable

FWIW grapeseed oil is the absolute worst you could use if PUFAs are bad. It's >80% PUFA, higher than any other. Of course that's based on two suppositions: 1) that the reason soybean oil is bad in this study is its PUFA content

Sunflower oil has even higher PUFA content than soybean, which is presumably the cause of these health issues in mice. I believe soybean was just chosen for the study because it's extremely ubiquitous in the US. edit: Partially wrong!

I currently use peanut oil, but it's still 30% PUFA. Presumably if PUFAs are bad (again, unproven!) then there would be something better.
