but why be so controlling? imagine someone is so busy they have to commute at 45 min commute in the 15 minute gap between meetings. so you’re refusal to be more understanding is blocking progress. likely it’ll be you removed from the meetin

this will be countered by denied code reviews and security reviews because of the nonstandard tech, forced to write documentation and finally knowledge sharing. they won’t let you make yourself irreplaceable

i bet working for you is like working for a dictator. a job of a manager is to gain trust both up and down the chain. if you’re forcing your employees to do something, you’ve lost their trust.

companies shouldn’t care the physical location of an employee, only that they’re meeting performance goals. why do you need to see me to do my job?

You manage 5 discs in a device because you care about data protection, being safer than a single disc. Yes SSDs in theory are faster but you are only as fast as your slowest link, which is the spindle drive. so that cache is a buffer only f

i do this on my synoligy using btrfs. i’m still not convinced SSD caching gives any benefit for a home user. 5 spindle drives can already read and write faster than line rate on the NIC (1gbe) so what is the point of adding another failure

what attachment to bcachefs do you have? the concerns are valid and at first i didn’t read it ask Linus not wanting another btrfs. But now thinking about it, why do we have another competing filesystem being developed at this point at all?

It does, and primarily increases the load / unload cycle count. some WD drives are only rated at a few hundred thousand load / unload cycles. it’s best to buy drives that can handle being on always and leave them on.

how will they both encrypt your machines drive, and the NAS backup with snapshots on it, but yet not defeat the air gap? air gapping is not some magical technique that keeps you secure. if you really want to protect yourself from crypto loc

I feel the opposite. I’ve watched streaming as my primary form of media for over 10 years now, and it seems a majority of the small, “intimate” broadcasters that were fun to watch have had to get real jobs, or are sailing the world, or what

this seems like a reasonable comment on its face, but then it reads selfishly. why should a developer donate time when a house isn’t donated to that programmer?

I’ve recently switched over to nixos and hyprland and couldn’t be happier. Linux UIs are stagnating all all seem to be coalescing around GNOMEs styling which I don’t particularly for. Hyprland with nix breaths new life into linux for me.

tbf how many people sign emails when they don’t work for a gov in any capacity and therefore aren’t likely a target. people in this field tend go overboard with security when really nobody cares about what they have access to.

That’s like grasping at straws to avoid the truth. If the ratio of developers using ruby is dropping, the popularity of it is dropping. Everything is ML focused now, and python is unfortunately the language most data scientists prefer.
