I didn't. When I thought about it, my guess was West Virginia. But I was wrong, in absolute number as per capita.

That is true, I didn't look for per capita but the absolute number. Also, if you take per capita, California isn't the biggest economy in the US, it's Delaware or if it were a state: Washington, DC.

Actually it shows how unequal the US states are in terms of economic power, the average US state is on number 31, California on number 5. Which begs the question, which is the worst doing state in the Union? (Answer: it is Vermont)

That is happening, when you change zoning to get more fitting buildings in the future. You can't change those rules for the past.

In a capitalist economy there is almost nothing worse than a monopoly. Maybe this is the issue of capitalism too. It is a monopoly for over 20 years now. There is nothing anymore to compete with.

Isn't there something like a "Bestandsschutz" for buildings? I couldn't find a fitting translation, it basically means, if you got a legal permit for building something and the rules are changing, your building is still

Years ago, I used HFSX on my machine but I don't remember that iTunes broke because of that. A lot of other things broke though.

Apple lists a few limitations for APFS, one being: "Filenames are currently case-sensitive only." My thought: hey, that is a feature!

Always when it is about payments in the US I understand more and more why fintech startups are so successful in the US. In Germany I don't really see the point. Wire transfers and deposit entries are cheap, reliable and they work with

But when I read that taxi companies and parking lot owners prevented the Green line from reaching the LAX airport, I'm like: wow. This is really a weird world, in which we live.

I think you have to start somewhere. Since you can't build an extensive light rail/subway network over night. So, I hope Los Angeles will continue to extend it.

Federated system are nice but clients for Jabber have very different quality. Some would support things you like others don't. For example iChat will always sent the background and forground colour of the chat bubbles with the message.

It really seems that you either have extremely high rents which almost nobody can pay. Or low rents but no housing. I think neither is a good housing policy.

Yeah, I'm still wondering for how long the Hyperloop can keep its high speed before it has to break again. This is already a big issue with high speed trains in Germany, so that some people say, why do we waste money on 300 kph trains

I'm still wondering how a neighbourhood will react if you want to build two massive tubes through it. I can't imagine people will like those tubes. Yes, you could put them underground but this will increase your costs.

Confusing, at first I thought this was about the F-104 Starfighter, than I thought it was a new science-fiction computer game but I never thought about a recruiting firm. I hope I'm not alone.

If you live from paycheck to paycheck, you live within your means but if anything happens, everything will fell apart. How this looks on a national scale was visible in the subprime mortage crisis a couple of years ago.
