Vercel also employs Rich Harris the creator and driving force behind Svelte and Sveltekit. I highly doubt these are top down decisions to pump usage of Vercel’s platform. Nothing forces users to use Vercel at all.

IMO the appeal of Deno was an opportunity to rethink the JavaScript ecosystem. The introduction of all these Node features make it far more likely that things stay the same way they currently exist with Node, making it feel pointless to bot
