The pop of an IPO is by design though. Bankers engineer the opening price lower than market so they can sell the stock pre-IPO to their rich clients and guarantee a quick return for them. The games bankers like Goldman play with IPO pricing

I see these as reasons why Teams doesn't have to compete on usability or features. Their customers literally can't use anything else.

I agree with you. For those same reasons it’s reasonable for HN commenters to be “pessimistic” about a library with no track record and no discernible take on why it deserves to be production ready.

If the author doesn’t provide any explanation of why this exists or what motivated them to create it, what am I supposed to assume? They’ve called it a database. They have said explicitly “ You can use this as a backend for your ReST APIs.”

What snowflake offers would cost you millions in engineering time to recreate from AWS primitives from scratch. AWS does offer a competing all-in-one offering (Redshift) but Snowflake has a superior cost structure and has outpaced it on fea

You’re talking about different things. When you shop credit card offers, you are comparing issuers (eg Chase vs Capital One). That’s not the same as the payment processor aka card network (Visa vs MasterCard). Of course it’s endlessly more

I built the spiritual successor to a multiplayer browser game that I’d made back in 2007. Back then, it was (briefly) the highest traffic Rails app in the world. The new one is built with Django. It’s been a delight doing web work again.
